After a strong first half, United looked to take control of the game and put the result beyond doubt. However, Spurs showed their character in the second half and scored two goals to earn a 2-2 draw.

Though Erik ten Hag has helped steer a sinking ship in Manchester United back on a path towards the top, his team threw away another two-goal lead on Thursday, suggesting he’s still working out how best to extract the maximum from his squad.

Ten Hag admitted that United “weren’t brilliant in the first half” and said he had been ready to make substitutions before United went two goals up.

In a friendly match, Spurs took the lead twice in their second half before United equalised twice in Ryan Mason’s first game as interim manager since replacing Cristian Stellini.

Newcastle cruised to a 4-1 victory away to Everton, securing their place in the top four and keeping Spurs at bay.
