Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was sent off in his side’s match against Tottenham Hotspur after the fourth official, Stuart Attwell, told him to calm down. Klopp admits that his actions were “unnecessary,” but believes words from Tierney aimed in his direction also fall into that category.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he had a history with the official who gave Mohamed Salah a foul before Tottenham’s third goal, adding that it was “tough and hard to understand” how the official looked at him. Klopp also said that his celebration after Spurs’ third goal was unnecessary, which is fair. He added that what the official said to him when he gave him a yellow card wasn’t ok.

In response to comments made by Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp after his side’s fixture with Tottenham Hotspur, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) issued a statement refuting Klopp’s accusations against referee Paul Tierney. “Match officials in the Premier League are recorded in all games via a communications system and having fully reviewed the audio of referee Paul Tierney from today’s fixture, we can confirm he acted in a professional manner throughout including when issuing the caution to the Liverpool manager so, therefore, we strongly refute any suggestion that Tierney’s actions were improper.”

Liverpool were not the only Premier League club to take issue with officials this season. In their clash against Arsenal, defender Andy Robertson was caught by an elbow from assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis.
