A court in Portugal has given Pinto a suspended sentence for accessing unauthorised computer systems, attempting extortion and intercepting correspondence.

He was convicted of hacking into a sports investment fund’s computers, the Portuguese attorney general’s office and a law firm in Lisbon.

The 34-year-old Frenchman created the website FootballLeaks in 2015, which regularly published information about transfer fees and player contracts.

The same week that Barcelona and Real Madrid were accused of financial irregularities, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were also accused of financial irregularities.

According to Sky Sports, the court ruled that Rui Pinto will be given a single four-year sentence but will not have to serve time in prison.
