Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk commented on the one-match suspension handed down to him by the FA for talking back to the refereeing team in a league match against Newcastle.

Virgil van Dijk took to social media to post the following message:

I’d just like to make clear I totally accept the panel’s decision. It was the first red card of my Liverpool career and I let my frustrations get the better of me in an intense and heated moment. I apologized immediately after the game to the match officials and take full responsibility.

The Dutchman, who was playing his first match for Newcastle in the EPL, was sent off in the first half of the game against Sunderland. He was given a straight red card and it was his first career dismissal in the league.

Van Dijk will miss two games after being suspended for a tackle on Jack Grealish. He will also miss the next match against Wolverhampton. The defender received a £100,000 fine.
